Pasta Week!

4/13/2018

This week in Luther's kitchen two of my classes had an entire week to design and produce a pasta dish. They could use an existing recipe or create one of their own. On Friday each kitchen presented their pasta and by random selection another kitchen reviewed their dish and gave it a grade based on taste, presentation and their ability to follow a recipe. Below are some pictures of their entries.

The making of the pasta was a lot of fun. We decided to follow a pioneer women recipe and add our own take to it. The judges liked the pasta but they said that the sauce just ran off the pasta so it was like just eating the pasta. Overall I liked the pasta and think that I might make that recipe again.

We made Shrimp Lasagna. It was a really fun process. The judges said it had to much pepper, but i still loved it. All in total, it was really delicious.

Our pasta was a penne alfredo and we added a lot of things to it. Our noodle was a normal penne but we made our own sauce. we put minced garlic, butter, heavy whipping cream, and parmesan cheese. It was really good and a lot of people tried it and said it was good. When Conner tried it, though, he said it was tasteless which it was not. Everyone else gave it at least a 28 but Conner had the paper so he gave it a 24.

The pasta contest was an enjoyable experience. We made a version of shrimp scampi, with sauteed mushroom, tomatoes, and shrimp. We created a homemade lemon butter sauce to go along with our pasta. We created this recipe from scratch and it turned out very good. Our presentation was could use some work, but overall it was a success. The judges said It tasted good, but It was very peppery. We got an overall score of 26/30. Our pasta is the first one on the second row.

We made a spicy shrimp lasagna. It was a fun experience. The judges said that there was too much pepper. Our pasta was very delicious, and I make the shrimp filling every Thursday for my family.

When we made the pasta it was very fun. The people who tasted our pasta liked it but they didn't like how the onion was crunchy and not blended all the way, it also needed more salt. Overall it was really good and fun to make.

The making of this pasta was a fun experience. We like how the recipe was made but, we changed the recipe a little. We didn't add any heavy cream like the recipe said but it was good. The judges thought that the sauce slide off the pasta, it lacked salt, and that the onions weren't cooked all the way. Other than that it was fun to make and the pasta was alright.

I thought my kitchen's pasta was really good. The main ingredients in our pasta were linguine noodles, shrimp, mushrooms, and tomatoes. The judges thought the noodle were too peppery but it was really the tomatoes that we messed up on by adding too much pepper. Over all though, I loved our pasta.

Our pasta was the second row the farthest to the right. We made a creamy Alfredo sauce on top of some penne pasta. We topped it with parsley and some Parmesan cheese. It was very delicious, but not everybody believed that @connerburrows😂 We had some mixed reviews. Some thought it tasted like Olive Garden, others thought it was tasteless.

Our pasta was on the first row and the third picture. What our pasta had was bow-tie noodles, chicken, bacon cut into tiny peaces, and our sauce included tomato, basil, and heavy cream with some salt. What went well was it tasted amazing and it was super simple to make. What went wrong though was the sauce took a little more time that we thought and we didn't end up getting it as thick as we wanted. The judges ended up loving our dish and we got first place.

My kitchen made the pasta on the second row, last picture. It was a creamy alfredo sauce on penne pasta. Conner Robert Burrows said, AND I QUOTE “it was tasteless.” But, other reviews, from Benito Chris Camacho (sorry if I wrote your last name wrong, said, AND I QUOTE, “this tastes like it’s from Olive Garden.” 💯🤯🤪

Our pasta was the chicken Alfredo pasta. Our noodles were very al dente. Our sauce came out really good and made the pasta even better. Some noodles accidentally overcooked but the center was great.

We made chicken Alfredo with Penne noodles and it tasted delicious it included an Alfredo sauce with Parmesan cheese and parsley. It also included chicken broccoli and Mozzerela. Our pasta tasted amazing it had the mix of chicken which went good with the texture of the cheese. Our downside was we started very late so we probably would have made it taste better if we took a little more time. Three of the judges thought it was a very good pasta but one individual thought it was tasteless and not good. But in the end i thought it was a fun process and thought it was a very delicious pasta

I love how fresh the pasta was, compared to the boxed pasta. It absorbed more of the sauce and basically melted in your mouth. I enjoyed the process of making the noodles, and I loved the rich decadence flavor of the noodles. It was very easy to perfectly cook the noodles since they float to the top when their done. We made cajun shrimp fetticune alfredo wtih tomato oil. It tasted really good but we added to much sauce for the ratio of noodles, and it was under seasoned. Also, the tomato oil was also separating. I probably did not emulsify the tomato oil enough.

My kitchen and I made a pesto marinara sauce with angel hair noodles. We made way too many noodles and they were sticky. The judges enjoyed our pasta and gave us a 30/30. Overall we got the highest score and I enjoyed our pasta.

We cooked a five cheese pesto marinara angel hair pasta. One complication that went wrong with our pasta, was our noodles. We over cooked our noodles, and we had to rise them off before serving them. So they didn't stick together in a clump. Our score was a 33 the highest grade we could get. Also we accidentally used Ms. Raluy's Parmesan cheese

I must admit our pasta was not the best and not even close either. As we took the ravioli out of the pot it looked like octopus. I was scared to even take a little nibble. I wish we could have done better but we only put a cheese filling in the ravioli made out of Parmesan and ricotta cheese.

Our pasta was a cajun shrimp fettuccine alfredo with tomato oil. I thought our pasta was amazing and definitely the best, the shrimp and the sauce were great, although we had a few mistakes. We under seasoned the sauce, and the tomato oil was bad. We got a perfect 30/30 from the judges who tasted our pasta.

The pasta was not really good. It was a really fun experience. The only good part about this was the cheese filling. Inside the cheese filling was Parmesan cheese and ricotta cheese. It came out really bad. It looked like octopus when we took it out of the pot. I enjoyed the inside but it had the outside was chewy. I will make this again but actually make it right instead of it looking like octopus.

My kitchen pasta was ravioli the dough was made of flour,an egg and salt and the filling was made of ricotta cheese and Parmesan cheese. One thing that went wrong was that I put the pasta in the water before it was boiling and we forgot to make a marinade. In my opinion the ravioli was very good. The judges said that our pasta didn't have much taste and chewy. Although somethings went wrong with our pasta my group and I liked it.

The pasta that we cook was pesto and rotini. Are noodles came out good. When we where making the pesto it had a after taste. We put in oil to help with the after taste and it help a little there was no after taste. We got 22 for the pasta.

Our pasta was pretty good. They had melted butter with chicken. A problem we had was our presentation. It was very bland.

We made Rotini pasta with pesto sauce. We added to much basil and garlic to our sauce, so it made our sauce overpowering. The judges liked our pasta. We got rated 24 points out of 30 points possible. My group liked our pasta, even though the pasta was strong.

Our kitchen made Fettuccine Alfredo. It was very good but the only problem was that there was too much cheese. If there was one thing we could've changed it would be to be more careful with how much stuff we added.
