Pasta Week!

10/20/2018

This week students had the opportunity to create their own pasta dishes. They first learned some commonly used noodle types and sauce ingredients. Then, with their kitchen, they scoured the internet for inspiration. Most students followed a recipe they found to sound appealing but some modified and created something uniquely them! On Friday, all pastas were reviewed by other students in the class in a Collaborative Food Review activity (like a cooking show) whereby the pastas were rated based on their taste, presentation and adherence to a recipe (did they follow the steps). I tasted about half of the pastas and honestly, what I tasted was really good! Below are their dishes.

The pasta that we decided to make was Fettuccine Alfredo with Shrimp. We first cooked the shrimp till it was all pink. Then we cooked the pasta. It took awhile. Next we made the sauce and put the shrimp in the sauce. Last we put the pasta in a bowl and put the sauce and shrimp in the with the pasta. We got 30 out of 30! The pasta we tried was too cheesy and had too much pesto. Also the noodle was rock hard. But it was still good. I had a lot of fun choosing what I wanted to make but it was also supper stressful.

I didn't get to try the pasta but making the pasta was really fun. My favorite part was stuffing shells. It was really difficult to make sure our noodles were cooked properly because we had to bake them too. Our filling looked really pretty and it tasted really good. It was such a great experience.

The pasta we decided to make was Penne Alfredo with Shrimp. We first cooked the shrimp till it was a little darker than pink and we seasoned it with lemon, salt, and pepper. We made the pasta, and let it cook for 11 minutes. Lastly, we made the sauce and it tasted amazing. We added the shrimp, pasta and sauce into a bowl and ate it. It was so good. We got 24 out of 30. The pasta we tried was amazing and I would totally eat it again.

I loved the pasta at the end it was like a pizza pasta. I loved getting to chose what to make and have a competition. We got 28/30 so I think we did pretty good. The pasta I tried wasn't very good. But making the pasta and sauce was very fun.

Making the pasta was really scaring. I thought that we would under cook it but it turned out great. Two of my kitchen mates had to stay back a little bit and cook the rest of the pasta but they said to their teacher the reason why they were late. Last minute, my kitchen mate brought in some sauce and made this pasta perfect. It tasted like pizza and we enjoyed it.

The taste of our pasta was very good and our pasta was creamy. The experience was fun because we got to make our own pasta. A new skill I learned was how to make Alfredo sauce.

My kitchen decided to make fettuccine Alfredo, and it turned out really good. First we made the noodles, but we didn't cook them enough, KEEGAN! Then we made the delicious Alfredo sauce, which turned out really good. Lastly we garnished with some Parmesan cheese and we served it. I enjoyed making the sauce and had a lot of fun making this dish. Also, I learned how to make a delicious Alfredo sauce.

I really enjoyed making pasta on our own because we learned how to fix the sauce and how to decorate it our way. Another thing I enjoyed was being able to pick our noodles and sauce. One experience I had was cooking noodles. We worked well as a team and we all helped each other if there was a problem.

The pasta that we choose to make was a ground beef pasta with a tomato sauce. It turned out very well it had a great taste. The pasta was rated a 28/30 and we even won for our class period. The experience was very cool and it was nice to do something that i really enjoyed.

We didn't have a lot of options because one of our people in our group was vegetarian and the other person was lactose intolerant. So we made regular pasta we had to make a homemade sauce. The sauce didn't turn out as we wanted it to turn out.It was okay overall though we thought that it needed a more flavorful taste.

In the kitchen our class chose to do Alfredo with tube pasta. We chose this because we didn't want something hard or to easy. And we wanted to choose something that we know would taste good. We thought it was good but the people that judged us didn't think so. I guess the cheese was to strong or something, because we didn't even season the chicken so I don't know what they were talking about. But I enjoyed it. the sauce was tasty and strong but very nice.

The pasta tasted great, and the sauce is what made it even better. The pasta we made was tubi and the sauce was ragu. I believe the reason we made this sauce, because it said it would go well with the pasta. The experience of making pasta was kinda rough mostly because of the sauce, but everything else was fine. I think we followed recipe really well. Now since I know how to make this pasta I think I will try making this pasta at home.

Our kitchen did a Aglio e Olio fettucine pasta, we choosed this recipe because it looked delicious and my kitchen nevered tried this type of pasta. So we tried something new and it didnt turned out that bad. We put too much garlic and parsley, it had a strong taste and to much overpowering seasoning. But next time, when the change has come, we would fix our mistakes.

My kitchen decided to make tortellini with creamy garlic sauce. Making the sauce for this pasta was very stressful because at first the sauce was just liquid and did not form correctly. We decided to wait and then the sauce became thicker. A few minutes after the sauce had the prefect consistency. Sadly, by the end of the period the sauce was solidified and had a tough consistency. You were able to poke it with out it sticking to your finger. The next day we added more chicken broth and that made the sauce better. Making the actual pasta was fun because we did not over cook it. When we plated our dish, it did not look very appetizing because the sauce had an odd beige color. For our score we got 20/30. My kitchen followed the steps pretty well except for the beginning of making the sauce. Overall, I would try to make this again and hopefully it turns out much better.

I loved making the pasta because you could make whatever pasta you would like. The pasta the we judged and made were both delicious. It was fun making and judging the pasta's.The pasta we made was actually really good, I thought the pasta would be gross because of the onions but it was surprisingly really good. In conclusion the pasta along with the contest was really fun and delicious

I loved this week because we learned about may different pastas and how to make many different sauces. Our kitchen made gnocchi with a basil lemon and parsley Alfredo sauce. We also added some chicken cooked in olive oil and lemon juice. The sauce was very creamy and delicious with the gnocchi and you could really taste the lemon. The kitchen that graded us also said it was delicious. I will definitely make this again with a few twists.

Our kitchen made Agilo e Olio,we made this pasta because it looked very delicious. If our kitchen didn't add so much oil and a sauce it would of been perfect. It was my first time trying this pasta and I really liked it.Our kitchen add some bacon to our dish which was even better.I had a really fun experience making the pasta and I would definitely make the pasta again.

Our kitchen made a Chicken Alfredo type of pasta, with whole wheat penne pasta. While shopping for the ingredients it was kinda stressful, seeing as our whole grade depended on it. But we got around to it eventually. I was in charge of the pasta and the grilled chicken. I really liked the finished dish, because we sprinkled red pepper flakes on the top. I do feel like we put to much red pepper flakes in the end, but overall I enjoyed the experience.

In our kitchen we made gnochi with a lemon and basil alfredo sauce. It was so amazing and I loved that we decided to add chicken into the sauce it tasted so good. I loved how the sauce was creamy and had a lot of amazing flavor. Im so happy that Olive told me about gnochi because it was so good and really fun to eat. The experience was a really fun time, it was like we were actually on one of the cooking shows! I would deffinitly make this again sometime at home, I loved it so much!

My kitchen and I made penne noodles with alfredo sauce and added some chicken on top. I personally thought that the sauce pretty good. We could've plated our pasta better and garnish it more but overall, I think it was pretty good! My kitchen followed most of the steps and added our spices here and there.

The pasta our kitchen decided to make was Aglio e Olio. We chose this pasta because it looked good and we wanted to try something new. The overall pasta was okay for our first time I would say it was pretty good. Our kitchen added too much garlic and parsley so the flavors were too strong. I think if I were to do this again I would add less parsley and garlic.

The pasta was really delicious. It was challenging making the sauce from scratch but it was fun. It was a little scary having people judge your food but our kitchen did a good job.I would like to make something of our choice again.

One thing I loved about the contest was that we could make are own pasta and follow a none Mrs. Raluy recipes. I also really enjoyed the process of making the pasta. I think that we did a really good job on the final product. When I tasted are pasta I though the sauce was kinda strong, but it complemented the tortellini in a way. We did go a little off recipe though with the sauce because it kept thickening, so we added more chicken broth. I was not happy by the final score we got but I know why. We had put a tad bit to much sauce on top of are dish which made it look unappetizing. So that helped in the result in are kitchen getting a 20/30. Though I am looking forward to the salad competition, and getting to do something like this again.

I did not like this at all. My kitchen had all these ideas that we couldn't do. I gave the final result to my friends and family and I could tell that they were honest when they said they liked it. I wasn't confident that we were going to win but I was that we would get a good score. Sadly the kitchen that graded us gave us the worst score. Now I only wonder when something like this will happen next, and how bad will I do, hopefully no bad at all.

The pasta my kitchen decided to make was fettuccine Alfredo. It was quite easy to make at least the sauce part. We slightly undercooked the noodles they were a bit hard. We garnished it with Parmesan cheese and a bit of parsley. The sauce was creamy and cheesy I think the way it should be. I want to try more pasta recipes because this was a lot of fun.

The pasta we made was Pesto Lasagna . It was really fun but a little complicated. Our noodles were a little hard and was hard to cut the lasagna. The pesto was really nice and a perfect mix with the cheese. I would like to try different types of lasagna's because my experience was super fun.

The pasta we made was Fettuccine Alfredo with Shrimp. First we cooked the shrimp until it was pink. As our next step, we made the sauce. When that was done we mixed the shrimp and sauce together. After that was settled, we made the pasta. As out last step we combined the shrimp, sauce, and pasta all together. For out score we received a 30 out of 30 points. This was both fun and stressful at the same time. The team's pasta we tried had too much pesto, and pasta was hard and it had no flavor. The presentation was well thought out and it was fun to try.

My kitchen and I made a three cheese pesto lasagna. It was fun and hard at the same time. The pesto was easy to make, but we needed a lot of basil. The actual lasagna noodle turned out a little bit hard. After all the dish came out amazing, and I enjoyed making it.

My kitchen made fettuccine Alfredo and it was delicious. We cooked the noodles just right, I think. When we added the cheese to the sauce, we accidentally put a full cup instead of half a cup. We over cooked the broccoli, but we mixed it with finely diced garlic, so it tasted great. When we topped the pasta with the broccoli it looked great.

Pasta week was by far the most fun week I've had in this kitchen so far. It was really amusing coming up with ideas and then actually making them happen. My kitchen made Penne, Alfredo with shrimp and this experience was my first time making Alfredo sauce and I thought it came out really well.
